How can we reflect on a motorway junction as a symbol of mobility in the 21st century?

Turning a junction into an exhibition space

The junction at Kleinpolderplein near Rotterdam is slowly falling into disuse. What can we do with a space of such monumental proportions which symbolises the mobility of the 21st century?

The foundation Werkgemeenschap Kleinpolder and Observatorium came up with an idea: on the 16th april 2016, the motorway was shut off and a large group of locals were invited to wander on the flyover and look at the city in a different way. The day was filled with music, tours and statues, and was supported by the municipality of Rotterdam, as they are looking for new ways of envisioning a liveable city when it comes to mobility.
